Dr. Minoo Derayeh is a specialist on Islam, Iranian Studies, World Religions and Gender Studies. Her research interests focus on gender and religion, modernity and tradition in Iran, Islam and social justice, and Islam and popular culture.
Dr. Minoo Derayeh is Associate Professor at York University in Toronto, where she is a specialist on Islam, World Religions, and Gender Studies. She received her Ph.D. from McGill University in Montreal, Canada. Her research interests focus on gender and religion, modernity and tradition, Islam and social justice, and Islam and popular culture. Her book entitled Gender Equality in Iranian History: From Pre-Islamic Times to the Present was published in June 2006. At York University she teaches variety of courses including Islam and Human Rights, Women Religion and Human Rights, Equity in Schooling and Racism in Education.
