Professor John Parkinson qualified as a Chartered Accountant in England in 1971 and a Chartered Management Accountant in 1975. In addition to working in the auditing profession John has worked as an accountant in advertising (London, England) and in food production (Nairobi, Kenya). In 1975, having completed his MSc at Bradford University Professor Parkinson joined the faculty at Bradford.

In 1979 John moved to the University of Malawi, where he was partially responsible for setting up a Bachelor's degree in Accounting at the Blantyre Polytechnic. In 1983 Professor Parkinson spent a year teaching at the University of Illinois in Chicago. In 1984, having completed his PhD, John joined Atkinson College as Associate Professor of Accounting & Finance. Dr. Parkinson has held visiting positions at: the University of the West Indies; Bolzano Free University and the American University in Dubai. John’s research interests include cost accounting methods and accounting history, as well as case teaching methods. Dr. Parkinson’s latest book is Accounting for Non-Financial Managers (2003).
