Dr. Ada Testaferri is a retired Associate Professor from York University in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, where she contributed significantly to the fields of Italian Studies and Women’s Studies. She received her PhD in Italian Medieval Literature from the University of Toronto in 1980, after completion of an M.A. in Italian Literature in 1971. Her academic journey began in Italy, where she earned a PhD (Dottorato) in Modern Languages and Literatures, with a concentration in German, from the Università degli Studi in Urbino in 1969.
Dr. Testaferri joined York University’s Department of Languages, Literatures and Linguistics (Italian) in 1982 as a Part-Time Assistant Professor. She was subsequently tenured as an Associate Professor in 1993, a position she held until her retirement in 2010. Her commitment to interdisciplinary scholarship was evident in her cross-appointment to the University’s Women’s Studies Programme, where she served as Part-Time Assistant Professor from 1986 to 1993, and then as Associate Professor from 1993 to 2010. Throughout her career, Dr. Testaferri advanced scholarship in Italian Medieval Literature while fostering dialogue across languages, literatures, and gender studies.
