Tsvetanka Karagyozova is an Associate Professor, Teaching Stream, in the Department of Economics, currently serving as the Undergraduate Program Director. Her research interests in the fields of development economics, financial economics, and behavioral economics focus on the role of financial innovation in improving the lives of the world’s poor. Her recent research explores the aggregate impact of microinsurance in African economies, the potential market niche for microinsurance in Canada, and the behavioural underpinnings of charitable giving. A strand of her research is dedicated to pedagogical methods that integrate community-based research into the classroom to enrich students’ learning experiences. The recipient of the LA&PS Dean’s Award for Excellence in Teaching, Tsvetanka has taught over 20 courses - ranging from introductory core courses to upper-level electives - delivered in both online and in-person formats, across a variety of class sizes and at multiple universities in Canada and the United States.
