With Nancy Lee Peluso (University of California, Berkeley): This long term project takes a historical approach to understanding how forestry practice co-produced political forests and states in Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia. The focus is also on how rural people’s access to forests have been remade through this territorializing process. The current stage takes up the violent co-production of national states and scientific forestry during the cold-war era of insurgencies and emergencies.
