I am at the early stages of a new research project that will explore the political, social and economic contradictions as well as the discursive meanings associated with a number of cases of modern globalized medical practices: kidney transplant surgery and the related phenomena of organ vending and transplant tourism; international patient programs aimed at providing medical interventions for children whose conditions require care not available in their home countries; international commercial surrogacy; and, stem cell tourism.
