My research interests include: Classical Latin literature; topography and material culture of the Roman world; theoretical approaches to literature and culture, with emphasis on materiality, gender, sexuality, and slavery; Roman wall painting; still life.

My research has centered on the Latin poet Martial, and particularly on his two early collections, the Xenia and Apophoreta. My more general interest is in the materiality of literature, and so my current research project investigates the representation of 'things' in Martial and other Latin poets.
